BENIN CITY-The Nigeria Union of Journalisits (NUJ), Edo State Council, has condemned the unabated cult-related killings ravaging Benin City.

The union called on security agencies to step up action to ending the scourge.

This was contained in a statement co-signed by the Council Chairman and its Secretary, Sir Roland Osakue and Titus Akhigbe respectively, and made available to journalists in Benin City, yesterday.

The release described the development as “unwarranted killings​ of youths in Benin City, particularly Upper Sakponba axis.

“The Union condemns the unending cult-related killings and we call on security agencies in Edo state to quickly nip it in the bud before it degenerates to a full-blown battle between the rival cult groups”. The statement stated.

Meanwhile, no fewer than three persons were today killed at Upper Sonkponba area bringing to seven the number of deaths recorded within the past two days in Benin City.

Among the victims were young John Terry murdered at Upper Uwa area, between 2nd and 3rd East Circular of the City.

A man in his prime simply identified as Africa gunned down Tuesday at his beer parlor, located at Uyiosa Junction, Upper Sakponba, Benin City and one Mr. Okunkpolor Osatohamwen Von, the husband of a Benin-based journalist shot dead in a hotel at Upper Sakponba, Benin.

The Commissioner of Police CP Hakeem Odumosu had at different press briefings paraded suspected cultists and vowed to clampdown on others at large.
