BENIN CITY – Men of the Nigeria Police in Edo State have smashed a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) syndicate in a hideout in GRA, Benin City.

Following a tip-off, men of the Nigeria Police were said to have stormed the hideout and arrested some members of the syndicate during an extraordinary meeting held in March 28, 2019.

Many members of the syndicate were also said to have, sustained various degrees of injuries, while trying to evade arrest.

An eyewitness disclosed that a principal official of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Club, Matt Oluwapelumi Aisida was among the escaped suspects.

The Edo State Police Command Police Relations Officer, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor while briefing newsmen at the State yesterday, said that the arrested members during investigation gave the name of one of their top executives in the South- South region, Matt Oluwapelumi Aisida, who is bisexual and happily married with children, and. two other members, Osaze lgbinoba, a son of a popular and influential All Progressives Congress(APC) Chieftain in the country (name withheld) and Faruk Bichi, a businessman from Kano State.

He said the latest raid is one of the measures embarked on by security agents to check same-sex relationship in the Society.

It was gathered that Aisida had at various times held Zonal and national offices of the club.

It was further gathered that the Police had launched a manhunt for the fleeing members of the club following confessional statement obtained from those arrested.
