Family of Adams Evbuomwan of Ugbokoniro Community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, has lamented what is regarded as abrupt display of arrogance by the elders of the community led by Mr. Igbinosun Joshua towards killing their daughter, Princess Adams Mercy, who escaped being killed and was subsequently declared wanted by the police, deceased guard family and elders over traditional implication arising from the death of her late father and a traditional title holder as Chief Priest of the community, Late Chief Priest Adams Evbuomwan, who died in February 1999, as his daughter (Princess Adams Mercy) was 21yrs old, a development which facilitated her escaped in June that same year.
Speaking to Journalists about the ugly trend, the only surviving uncle to Princess Adams Mercy, Mr. Adams Osazee, said that the matter has been lingering on since the year 1999, his late brother died and the escaped of the only child, the subject matter just because her late father was not having male child to inherit the throne and as such, she (Princess Adams Mercy) was penciled down to be killed in line with the dictates of the tradition of the land to appease the ancestral gods.
He said that when the tension became high, especially after she has been captured and tied to kill before she was set free by one of her father’s former guards, called Efe, who, among others eventually were employed to guard her from escaping, ran to his house in Benin after she heard that the guard, Efe who set her free was angrily killed by the elders of the community and his family vowed to retaliate hence they reported the matter to the police for influencing the killing of their son when she supposed to be killed.
He added that while Princess Adams Mercy, ran to his house, he told her that, that was the tradition of the land that if a man dies without having a male child, the eldest daughter is usually killed for sacrifice for the gods and for her own case, she cannot avoid unless she escape to an unknown place where she cannot be seen by these evil-minded elders, stressing that the security agents cannot be drafted into such matter because it is a traditional matter, but that for record purpose,particularly against the backdrop of the fact that Efe family had reported the matter to the police who are investigating the matter to arrest her.
The source pointed out that after staying days in his house, before the elders and the Efe family who got the wind of Princess Adams Mercy hiding there, could mobilise their killing squads there, he advised her to escape to her church where she worship as a catholic faithful and that no sooner she left her house than the killing squads of the community and Efe family callously invaded his house and ransacked every corner in search of the escaped victim to kill and two days later, they angrily shouted to say that they were planning to invade the church, unknown to them, that she had escaped to an unknown place, an act which precipitated them to declare her wanted, just as they had circulated her information round the country, particularly when it became glaring that their boys cut across the country, explaining further that 20yrs now, the elders and Efe family, who, are bent on killing Princess Adams Mercy, had ceaselessly sent strange-looking miscreants around their house in the community and his Benin City residence, saying, he was gripped with palpable fear of being attacked hence this cry for help especially when Efe family are still lamenting the death of their son who died trying to make her alive.
