WARRI – Policemen in ‘A’ Division in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, on Saturday evening, arrested a forty year old man simply identified as Mudiaga for allegedly defiling a three year old baby girl.(names withheld)

The suspect was said to have taken to his heels after committing the devilish act when he sensed that the police were already in the know about the incident.

Luck however ran against him when the police with the help of the Iyara Community Youths’ leader arrested him at about 4pm on Saturday.

Nigerian Observer gathered that, the suspect allegedly defiled the young girl on Wednesday July 31 at Iyara Street, in Warri.

According to the baby’s mother , she noticed the child’s endless cry as a result of the excruciating pains from the act when she wanted to bath the child.
This she said, prompted her to examine her genitals only to discover that her daughter had been defiled.

She immediately rushed her to the Delta Hospital Management Board (Warri Central Hospital)where the child was examined and admitted until yesterday, Friday August 2.

A medical report by the Hospital however confirmed the alleged defilement of the three year old baby.

According to the medical report, “There were attempts, but because of the age, the alleged pedophile could not penetrate thereby causing serious injury.”

A human rights Activist in Warri Delta State, Comrade Israel Joe has drawn the attention of the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Adeyinka Adeleke to the matter which he christened as “Ugly” and callous defilement of the three year old child.

Joe said the attention becomes important and worrisome owing to the negative trend rocking the society.

He noted that the matter was first ireported at the “A” Division Police Station and all efforts made to apprehend the suspect were unsuccessful until today.

Efforts to reach the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Adeyinka Adeleke were unsuccessful as he did not pick his calls to either confirm or refute the report.

There has been increase in the rate of child defilement and abuse in recent past across Delta State.

According to reports from the Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Unit of the Delta State Ministry Justice, the ministry was currently prosecuting over 300 cases of defilement of minors alone and over 50 cases of domestic violence including five cases of incest in courts in the state.
