EKPOMA – A total of 8,276 graduands are to be awarded with First Degrees at the 22nd Convocation Ceremony of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, holding at the weekend.

A total of 53 will also be awarded with Post Graduate Diploma; 146 with Masters Degree and 44 Doctorate Degrees.

The convocation is for students that graduated in the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 Academic Sessions.

The vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo while briefing the press disclosed that certificates of the graduands shall be ready for instant collection.

He disclosed that the convocation would also feature the launch of Ten Billion Naira Endowment Fund, and urged all alumni, captains of industry and well meaning individuals and corporate organisations, as well as stakeholders to use the opportunity to contribute meaningfully towards achieving the vision of making AAU best State University and ten best universities in Nigeria.

The Pre-Endowment Lecture, according to the vice chancellor would be delivered by a former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, while the Convocation Lecture would be delivered by the Ekiti Stae Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

He said several personalities, including the Gambia President, Adama Barrow would be given honorary degrees, while the Pro-chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Chief Lawson Omokhodion would be formally installed at the convocation.

On his achievements, the vice chancellor said his administration has completed 76 projects, out of which 35 were funded by Tetfund, 29 by Presidential NEEDS Assessment Intervention Fund, while the others were done with Internally Generated Revenue.

He said his administration has shifted the university from analogue to digital mode operation, as it had deepened the use of ICT to achieve speed, efficiency, effectiveness and cost saving.

He appreciated the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for undertaking to complete the Impressive Administrative Building, which when completed he said, would provide much needed accommodation for council, senate, management and administrative staff.
