BENIN CITY- For an uninterrupted revenue administration process, Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has urged all residents within the state, especially taxpayers to explore online revenue tax payments processes as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of COVID 19 in the state.

Taking this stand in a release made available to the Nigerian OBSERVER, Executive Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O), EIRS, Mr. Igbinidu Inneh urged people to adhere to laid down health precautions on hand washing and use of hand sanitizers while maintaining the reengineering process of social
distancing.

He advised taxpayers to pay their taxes using the EIRS (Online) e-payment platforms/website by visiting www.eras.eirs.gov.ng.

Mr. Igbinidu Inneh addressing taxpayers on the emanating COVID 19 health issue, he stated, “EIRS will be extending the closing date for filing of tax returns by one month with effect from March 31, 2020. This is to allow ample time for individual taxpayers to file their tax returns under prevailing circumstances.”

He called on taxpayers interested in interacting with the revenue service to do so using any of the EIRS online platforms or via under listed customer care lines – 0813 097 0146, 0809 203 8444 or through E-mail: [email protected]

He advised taxpayers to key into Edo State Government’s guideline and protocol at combating the spread of the Corona virus disease maintaining that, “Edo State Internal Revenue Service has developed an operational continuity plan to ensure the safety of our staff, taxpayers as well as other visitors in this regard.”

The EIRS Chief continued, “To ensure that taxpayers are catered for under the prevailing circumstance and have an uninterrupted revenue administration process, the EIRS offices will remain open, observing precautionary protocols with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

He advised taxpayers who visit the EIRS office to adhere strictly to preventive health protocols which include mandatory hand washing, use of hand sanitizers as well as observing the policy of social distancing.

He reiterated EIRS implementation of government’s mandate restricting all public gatherings and meetings within the premises of the EIRS to 20 persons. He nonetheless affirmed that all EIRS offices are equipped with tools to observe proper hygiene.

On a propriety note Inneh confirmed that the “Board and Management of the Service will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves and constantly update taxpayers with current happenings and changes as it relates to EIRS operations.
