As the coronavirus otherwise known as covid 19 continues to ravage the world globally unabated, the people of Oraekpen Development Association (ODA) USA branch over the weekend distributed food items to windows and the needy in Ora clan, Sabongida-Ora, Owan West local government area.

Speaking at the event, the founding president of the association, Prof. Unigbije Aisiku said that members of the association USA branch came together during his last visit to US and decided in their commitment to helping the needy in the community provided money to buy food items to be distributed to windows in need and others.

He said that to ensure transparency in the distribution of the food items, the head of each quarter was asked to write the names of the needy and vulnerable among them that is to benefit from the palliative as they are closer to the people within their quarters.

According to him, “What we are doing today is to distribute those food items to windows, aged and vulnerable among us that are mostly in need.”

Prof. Aisiku who is the founding president of the association said that the association was founded in the 90s to foster unity and progress of Oraekpen community in Sabongida-Ora.

He expressed gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the recipients adding that their gesture were well received and appreciated with prayers that God will continue to bless their stay in America.

The retired academician however advised the members of the association USA branch to always continue to have the spirit of peace, unity, progress and development of Ora community and that they should have hand in the development of the community saying that Ora is one and would always remain one while they should also continue to show sensitivity to the yearnings of their people at home.

Also speaking, the world wide president of the association, Sir Donatus Igboie said that the USA branch of the association thought it wise that the covid 19 pandemic still ravaging the whole world; they have to do something to reduce the sufferings of the needy in their community.

He stated further that the Oraekpen community comprises of 6 units of Oke, Eme, Ohia, Uhonmora, Ovbiokhuain and Evhiobe were all represented at the event.

High point of the event was the distribution of 10 kg bag of rice and gari with one thousand naira each to 250 beneficiaries
