OBADAN: A heavy rainstorm has wreaked havoc in Obadan community in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State.

The rainstorm which occured in the area on Friday June 11, 2021 destroyed many houses and property worth millions of naira, thereby rendering many people homeless.

Many houses had their roof blown off, while others were completely flooded, destroying many household items such as furniture, electronics, books, clothes and other personal belongings.

A visit to the community revealed that the victims of the rainstorm have taking refuge in the public school and health centre in the area.

Some of the elders, women and youths in the community said that they have never experienced such natural disaster in their lives and therefore called on the relevant authorities to assist in rehabilitating them, in order to save them from untold hardship and frustration.

Speaking on the disaster, a government officials in the office of Disaster Management, Mr Paul Ugiagbe told newsmen that officials of the agency would be dispatched to the community to assess the extent of the damage by the rainstorm in order to determine the level of government intervention or assistance.

Mr Paul however sympathised with the victims, assuring that government would assuage their sufferings.
