BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has commended residents for supporting its efforts at containing the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that the state’s response to the pandemic was yielding positive results.
The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, gave the commendation after the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
Obi stated that with the ongoing massive vaccination in the state, Edo was recording a gradual decline in the number of mortalities and infections, as more residents are being inoculated against the virus.
He, however, reassured the government’s commitment to building herd immunity against the virus and ensuring the health of citizens.
Obi added that the government has intensified the vaccination of more residents across all communities to ensure that the majority of Edo people are protected against the virus.
The Incident Manager said Edo, in the last 24 hours, recorded 12 new cases from the 202 samples collected, with one more death, adding, “Edo has witnessed a 13.2 percent drop in average test positivity rate, 66.7 percent reduction in fatality rate and 70.7 decline in new case identification.”
Speaking to journalists on the daily COVID 19 briefing at the Government House in Benin City, Head of the State’s COVID 19 Case Management, Dr. Ebomwonyi Osagie said the new death is that of “a 71-year-old woman who was admitted on the 23rd into our treatment facility and died on the 27th of September 2021.”
