Palpable fear and grief has enveloped the once bubbling main market in Idimili North Local Government Area of Anambra State following the gruesome killings of five persons including one Mr Bright Obulor, father of one of the wanted member of Indigenous People of Biafra in the area by the Joint Task Force of the Nigerian Police and the Nigerian Army.
The attack and the subsequent killings of the five persons and Mr Bright Obulor left many injured as they scampered for safety and properties worth millions of naira lost in the process
According to a source in the area who spoke to Nigerian Observer correspondence on condition of anonymity said the incident occured when the Joint Task Force launched a manhunt for the leader, one Mr Oriaifo Obulor and other members of the proscribed IPOB on their planned peace protest to distrupt the forthcoming gubernatorial election schedule for November 2021 in the state
He confirmed that the exchange of gun fire with the leaders and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra led to the killings of the five persons including the father of one of the leader, Mr Oriaifo Obulor, who died while descharging his goods to the wife in the market
However some of the members of the proscribed group have been arrested and taken away by the Joint Task Force
Also in a statement on the attack,the Commissioner of Police Anambra State, Echeng Ewerro Echeng said the Task Force is going to dominate all the towns and villages, build the confidence of the people of the state for them to come out and exercise their franchise come 6th of November without threat to anybody and that the command will continue to encourage and enlighten the people on the security situation in the state
He commended the Task Force team for repelling the leaders and members of IPOB.
Meanwhile the Joint Task Force in a statement made available to Nigerian Observer correspondence said it has launched a manhunt on the fleeing leaders and members of IPOB Idimili North Local Government Area of Anambra State including one Mr Oriaifo Obulor,John Ibe, Obina Chineye, Rojo Chukwu, Evbade Raphael, Eta Odu and Igbins Nafu amongst others whose whereabout remains unknown
