BENIN CITY – The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said his government is committed to ensuring a conducive learning environment for pupils and students in the state.

Obaseki, while speaking to journalists in Benin City, said the government plans to renovate 1,000 more classrooms across various schools in the state to ensure that students have the best learning environment.

According to him, “Our commitment to education is unwavering as we have built over 204 new classrooms and renovated over 3,000 in the last three years. In the next few weeks, we will start another round of refurbishment of another 1,000 classrooms across the state.

“We have provided over 40,000 pieces of furniture and are putting more, as we have made a commitment that no child will seat on the ground to receive Instructions. We have provided over 8.5 million learning materials in our schools and will continue to invest in our schools.”

He continued: “We have trained over 11,000 teachers and have started the first phase of on-boarding for new Edo Supporting Teachers To Achieve Results (EdoSTAR) Teaching Fellows. I am confident that by the time that we are leaving office in 2024, we would have qualified teachers in every classroom in Edo State.

“During my reelection campaign, I made it clear that we are Edo people and our priority is not on stomach but metal Infrastructure. I am assuring you that I will continue to spend Edo State money on its people.”
