Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari, on Wednesday made a surprise appearance to the Nigerian Senate Chamber at the National Assembly to witness the laying of the report of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review.

She was admitted into the Chamber shortly before the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege laid the report of the Committee on Constitution Review on the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 5th Alteration Bills, 2022 before his colleagues.

The First Lady was accompanied by the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Women Affairs Paulen Tallen and a delegation of Nigerian women.

After a warm reception from Senators, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan in his remarks, said Aisha Buhari was at the National Assembly Complex to show support for a bill seeking more affirmative action for more female participation in Parliament.

The Senate President, assured the First Lady that the Ninth Assembly, while voting on the amendments to the constitution as contained in the ad-hoc committee’s report, would ensure that women participation in governance is commensurate with their population.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate will next Tuesday vote on the report of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review on amendments to the 1999 Constitution.
