… Results to Threats, Cult Group Attacks
BENIN CITY – The importance of landed property is a universal acceptance and its value largely unquantifiable when properly harnessed.
However, this valuable asset rather than add value to some families, have created irreconcilable dispute, and sometimes, leading to dangerous attacks and infighting amongst otherwise, closely knitted family members.
According to report reaching our news desk, the family of Ndidi Eboigbe dynasty at the Upper Sakponba community in Edo State has been enveloped in serial controversies, following the controversial death of their patriarch, Pa Robert Eboigbe.
The reports said that since the death of Pa Eboigbe several group, suspected to be secret cult members, have allegedly tried to attack the family members over a piece of land left behind intestate by the deceased.
According to source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said their patriarch, Pa Robert Eboigbe died intestate in May 2015 and alleged that his brother, Mr. Joseph Eboigbe, immediately decided to take over the family land and possess it for personal use.
The source added that the piece of land which hitherto belong to the Late Pa Robert Eboigbe, is supposed to be bequeathed to the deceased children as part of their inheritance.
However, their uncle, Mr. Joseph Eboigbe, it was alleged, is trying to claim it by creating sharp division and infighting in the family.
According to our source, Mr. Joseph has insisted that the said land belongs to the Eboigbe family and since he is next in seniority to the deceased, he is the rightful person to inherit the piece of land.
Our investigation has revealed that the said Robot EiS, son of the deceased who was dissatisfied with the way and manner his uncle was trying to take over their inheritance, reportedly accused him of killing his father in order to take over their landed property.
“Infuriated, Mr. Joseph Eboigbe who insisted on possessing the land, vowed to revenge for daring to accuse him of killing his own brother.
“He therefore warned the children of the deceased to stay away from the land or be dealt with in a manner they never imagine”, the source said.
“Several attempts to persuade Mr. Joseph to relinquish the said land have led to more violent attacks, especially towards the children of the deceased”, our source added.
It was however reported that some unknown group of persons who have earlier attacked the family residents with dangerous weapons over the land dispute, have continued to lay siege in a clandestine manner in and around the family compound, threatening to attack anybody who dear to challenge Mr. Joseph Eboigbe over the said land.
As at press time, Mr. Joseph could not be reached for comments as he was seen to be very angry over the matter. However, sources have said that Robot EiS has disappeared to unknown destination as he silently fears for his life.
