It is not longer secret that Nigeria as a country and by extension Africa is known globally for its rich tradition and cultural heritage. Little wonder the country is often referred to as cradle of black civilisation.

It is important to state here that many traditional practices abound in Nigeria and with theirs peculiarity associated to the different states in the country.

Some of these traditional parties are idol worship, voodism, witchcraft, wizardry, deities, traditional priesthood, soothsayer, and masquerade.

Ironically, offenders of these traditional practices and other many more are punished with grave consequences, ranging from appeasing the gods/land to execution and banishment.

Like, in Ondo State, which was part of the old Oyo empire, it is a taboo for anyone to run foul of the traditional practices in the state. This is irrespective of your religion, tribe and status.

Most times, children of the offenders are made to.atone for the sins of theirs parents and this has continued to attract reactions from international communities.

A case in focus is that of a 28-year-old Esther Ebiye Martins, a native of Arogbo village in Ondo State. Esther’s ordeal was gathered to have started on March 29, 2022.

What could have informed Esther’s ordeal is a question that is dominating the media and public space.

It was gathered that the elders of Aroggbo village demanded Esther atoned for the taboo ( unlawful possession of the village’s traditional staff of office) allegedly committed by her late father, an act the people viewed as sacrilegious in the land.

The elders it was further gathered also demanded that Esther should be circumcised and take the position of a chief priestess of the dreaded Arogudade deity.

The demand of the elders according to sources never went down well with Esther, owing to her strong Christian faith

“The elders dissatisfied with Esther’s refusal to their demand, decided to hunt for with a view to eliminating her, hence, her sudden disappearance from the village to unknown location, apparently for safety”, a source in the village disclosed

However, the whereabouts of Esther is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report
