ABUDU – As plans are on for smooth take off of academic activities at the Abudu campus of Edo state college of education by September 2022, governor Godwin Obaseki has disclosed that the Orhionmwon administrative headquarters will be among the “mini cities” expected to be created by 2024.

The governor made the disclosure after an inspection of the revamped multi million naira college at Abudu on Sunday.

According to Obaseki, the state government is in talks with an undisclosed energy company that would power Abudu and other 14 towns in the state billed to upgraded to cities.

Obaseki told journalists that Benin City, the state capital was over populated hence the need to decongest it by creating activities outside the metropolis.

“We’re currently having conversations with an energy company to see how we can power some cities in Edo state, to just bring life; to see how we can locate 1 to 2 Megawatts of power to some of these cities because we want to decongest Benin City.

“I want to see how we can begin to disperse population, create activities outside Benin City. We promise to have about 10 to 15 other mini cities outside Benin by the time we are leaving office, so Abudu is going to be one of them”, The governor said
