EKPOMA – Goods worth millions of naira were yesterday destroyed by ‘strange’ fire on Akere Lane, Alli Square in the university town of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Over 10 stores affected by the inferno, include electronic shops, interior decoration shop, cyber café, Photo Studio, generator sales and repair shop, building materials stores, among others.

Goods destroyed include, electric appliances such as plasma television sets, home theatre, air conditioners; photo cameras, laptop computers, desktop computers, plumbing materials, generator sets, toilet seats, building materials, and many others.

It was gathered that one of the shops destroyed by the inferno was a photo Studio, with state of the art equipments, commissioned less than week before the incident.

The NIGERIAN OBSERVER gathered that the fire began from an electronic sales shop, at about10pm on Thursday, before spreading to other affected shops.

As at the time of this report there were still billows of smoke from the affected shops, while sympathizers gathered at the scene to catch a glimpse of the damages.

Many of the sympathizers present at the scene, suspected foul play, alleging that the fire would have been deliberate ignite by an arsonist, since there was blackout and it was raining at that moment.

Owner of Tomich Link Ltd, the cybercafé affected by the inferno, who pleaded anonymity, lamented that he could only salvaged few things before the fire overtook his office.

The victim who could not but described IT as strange, since there blackout, and it rained although the day.
