BENIN CITY: Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed the bill for a law to establish the Edo Diaspora Agency into law.
In the same vein, the bill for a law to repeal the Rural Electricity Board 1972, to make provision for electricity and its generation, transmission and distribution within and for the residents of Edo state, to establish an electricity market in the state was also passed into law.
The passage of the bill was sequel to the consideration of the bill at the committee of the whole.
The House in a motion moved by the Majority leader, Hon. Henry Okhuarobho member representing PDP Ikpoba-Okha constituency seconded by Hon. Yekini Idiaye member representing PDP Akoko-Edo 1 constituency resolved into the committee of the whole for the clause by clause consideration of the bill.
During the clause by clause consideration of the bill, all sections of the bill which include Part 1: Establishment, Power, Functions and Objectives; Part 2: Establishment and Composition of the Board; Part 3: Qualification for membership, Functions and meetings of the board; Part 4: Staff of the Agency; Part 5: Funds and financial provisions of the Agency; Part 6: Legal proceedings and Part 7: Miscellaneous were unanimously adopted without any amendment.
The Speaker, Rt.Hon. Marcus Onobun thereafter directed the clerk to give the bill its third reading.
Also, the bill for a law to repeal the Rural Electricity Board law 1972, to make provision for electricity and its generation, transmission and distribution within and for the residents of Edo state and to establish an electricity market in the state was passed into law.
The House at the committee of the whole adopted without any amendment all the sections of the bill including Part 1: Principle provision; Edo State Regulatory Commission; Part 2: Edo State Electricity Market, Operator; Part 3: Contract, tariff and customers protection; Part 4: Edo State Electrification Agency and Electrification funds and Part 5: Miscellaneous provisions.
The consideration of all the sections of the bill at the committee of the whole was sequel to the adoption of a motion moved by the Majority leader of the House Hon.Henry Okhuarobo member representing PDP Ikpoba-Okha constituency seconded by Hon. Emmanuel Okoduwa member representing PDP Esan North East
The Clerk of the House, Mr. Yahaya Omogbai was thereafter directed to give the bill its third reading.
The bill for a law to repeal the Rural Electricity Board 1972 law would provide for electricity generation, transmission and distribution for the residents of Edo State while establishing an electricity market.
It also seeks to establish engineering rules, codes and practices in addition to creation of job opportunities for Edo youths.
