The Delta State Revenue Service has set machinery in motion to commence the collection of television taxes from hotels in the state.

This was made known to heads of stations of the revenue service in a meeting at the administrative headquarters of the establishment in Warri.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the services, Sir Monday Oyeme, told the heads of stations that the collection of radio fees was already operational and gaining ground as the it was being collected directly from vehicle paper renewals and residents also paid television rates through their satellite and service providers.

The chairman, represented by Mr. Kelly Oghenekevwe, a board member, encouraged the heads of stations to abide by all the decisions reached at the meeting as he had discovered that after every meeting, most people still maintained the status quo ante.

Also speaking at meeting, the Director of Operations, Mr Monday Ojulari, told the station heads that the person in charge of the collection of television revenue was not a consultant, but an adviser as the Joint Tax-Board no longer recognized consultants.

While speaking with the heads of stations, the adviser of the television revenue collection said each television rate N300  and the satellite providers had a mechanism for knowing the number of televisions in each hotel as that would had been a major problem faced by CITNS.

On a lengthy discussion with the payees, Dr. Ikediashi asked them to furnish the headquarters with the names of all the hotels in their locality.

He said one of the ways for them to be the best in the discharge of their jobs was to strengthen their offices.

He also advised them to create a department for the hotels and to ensure all mails they sent were acknowledged as an evidence.

He also enjoined them to create a good working relationship with their staff and the tax-payers.

On issues of compliance, he said they were working with the state government, the Attorney General of the state and the Police to effect compliance and if necessary to seal off property or business premises of defaulters.
