BENIN CITY – The Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has asserted that being able to communicate is a new economy that needs to be significantly explored while Technology on the other hand is the antidote to the future economic challenges in Nigeria.

Gov. Obaseki made these assertions in Benin City, during the EDSG Thought Leadership Series; with the THEME: “Driving Investments To Build The Edo Of Our Dream – The Civil/Public Service Mandate”.

The Governor emphasised that in spite of the wakeup call by COVID-19 crisis, Climate Change and Weather challenges, and “considering where we are coming from”, a lot of System Reforms and Physical Achievements have been manifestly executed in Edo State.

He said that there is an essential need for the people of the State to rethink and galvanise the critical mass to seamlessly develop, reorganise our potentials and also project our unique advantage for global relevance.

According to him, “our potential in Edo is mind boggling and the way we communicate our ‘EDONESS’ is important.”

He said that the Government is not there for itself, but for the people and therefore needs to be creative and have innovative plans to be able to sustain our economy in the area of Security, Technology, infrastructure and access to power.

Other areas that need pragmatic solutions and sustainable organisation according to the Governor, include Land Administration, Taxation, Facilitation of Local Content, Access to Market and Efficient Transportation System.

Gov Obaseki called for collaboration across all stakeholders to be able to revive our Aging Infrastructure and sustain them through the capacity of strong Bureaucracy.

He added that Bureaucracy has the capacity to assist development and sustain the system because of its inherent features of hierarchy and tenor, which the Governor described as the soul and custodian of Bureaucracy.

Gov Obaseki thanked the Transformational Team who has been central to the various Reforms in the State, describing their commitment as unprecedented in the history of Edo State.

Speaking earlier, the Edo State Head of Service, Barr. Anthony Okungbowa expressed gratitude to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration for deepening the gains of democracy in Edo State as well as in the public service infrastructure and welfare.

Barr. Okungbowa explained that the achievements and visions of the governor are going to be sustained beyond his tenure by the bureaucratic services, who are the custodians of the system.

Present at the Thought Leadership Series were “Focal Persons” and “Change Agents” from Ministries, MDAs and Departments across Edo State.
