…as singer’s photo with wife Chioma garners over 1.7m likes
Afropop singer David Adeleke (a.k.a. Davido) has set a new record as the Nigerian celebrity with the most liked Instagram picture.
Davido, in what appears to be a grand comeback to social media after weeks of hiatus following the loss of his son Ifeanyi, on Sunday posted cute pictures of himself and his wife, Chioma.
The picture instantly set Instagram abuzz and has garnered 1,700,169 likes and 226,381 comments as at the time of filing this report, less than 24 hours after it was posted.
The award-winning singer, who is also the most-followed African celebrity on Instagram with 26.1 million followers, has stayed away from social media since the tragic death of his son in October.
Hopes that Davido could be returning to social media soon were sparked after the DMW label boss a few days back liked an Instagram post by “Zazu” singer Portable.
The post liked by Davido was a video of Portable performing his popular song “Zazu” at a school’s year-end party in Warri, Delta State. Dated 15 December 2022, the video also showed the school children, their parents and guardians enthusiastically joining Portable to shake their bodies on the dance floor.
Later on Sunday, Davido sang the 2022 World Cup soundtrack “Hayya Hayya” (Better Together), alongside Trinidad Cardona and AISHA, at the closing ceremonies of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, where Messi’s Argentina trounced the defending champions France 4-2 in a penalty shootout to clinch the coveted prize. It was Davido’s second public appearance and first performance since the death of his son.
Ifeanyi, one of Davido’s children and his only son, was reported to have died in October after drowning in the family swimming pool in his father’s house in Banana Island, Lagos, just days after his third birthday.
