…invites bids from general public

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to auction 100 houses in Lagos, River and Abuja, information gathered from its Twitter handle has revealed. As a result, the commission is inviting bids from the interested members of the general public with regards to those assets.

“The general public is notified that the EFCC will conduct the sales of assets (landed properties) listed in the attached images,” EFCC announced today.

In terms of types of assets, EFCC categorises them as real estate, land, a generator, and a diesel tank. Among the real estate properties listed include Flat 1, BLDG 3, Block B, Bella Vista, Plot 1 Zone N, FG Layout, Banana Island, Foreshore Estate, Off Onikoyi Road, Ikoyi, Eti Osa LGA,in Lagos State.

One of the locations of the lands is at Fountain Spring Estate, Sangotedo Lekki, Lagos State.

The EFCC also listed the real estate at Plot 100/101, Gudu District Isa Mohammed Street, Cadastal Zone, BOI FCT Abuja among the items to be disposed of during the auction.

In Rivers State, some of the properties to be sold include all the apartments from Flat 1 to Flat 11 in Heritage Court Estate Port Harcourt, just to mention a few.

An EFCC follower on Twitter, Omo-Jesu, observed that the design of the auction form appears to exclude Nigerians in the diaspora based on the use of the term “Federal High Court Registry.”

Responding to his enquiry, Oladeji Olalekan, another EFCC follower on Twitter said the use of the term “Federal High Court Registry” may be a general provision, citing Section 110 of Evidence act 2011.

“Any affidavit sworn in any country other than Nigeria before (a) a judge or magistrate, being authenticated by the official seal of the court to which he is attached, or by a notary public; (b) the duly authorised officer in the Nigerian embassy, high commission or consulate in that country may be used in the court in all cases where affidavits are admissible,” Olalekan said.

The latest move by the EFCC to sell some assets followed another auction that took place on December 20 in Ilorin, Kwara State capital where the commission sold seven cars that were subjects of final forfeiture in Ilorin.

Concerning the Ilorin auction, EFCC states: “The process started on Monday, December 19, 2022 with the display of the cars for public inspection at No 11, Catchment Road, Adjacent Noktel Hotel, GRA, Ilorin to provide opportunity for bidders to view and indicate interest in any car of their choice.

“The exercise, which is a continuation of the auction taking place across the Commands of the Commission, was done in line with the EFCC (Establishment) Act 2004; Public Procurement Act 2007 and the Proceeds of Crimes (Recovery and Management) Act 2022.

“The auctioned vehicles are Lexus IS350 2007 model, Toyota Venza 2010 model, White coloured Mercedes Benz 2007 model, Gold Porche 2005 model, Red coloured Toyota Camry 2008 model, Grey coloured Honda Accord 2007 model and Ash coloured Toyota Camry 2009 model.”
