More than 20 companies operating in Benin City have been connected to the 95MW Ossiomo Power Plant, the power generation and distribution company midwifed by a Memorandum of Understanding between the Edo State Government and Ossiomo Power Company.

Edo State has continued to witness an influx of private businesses since the power plant came on stream, with many companies opting to leverage the power advantage to expand their businesses and boost production.

The 95MW Ossiomo Power Plant is located at Ologbo, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, and provides power to the Benin Enterprise Park. It also powers government buildings and establishments, including hospitals, the secretariat complex, Government House, as well as the state’s street lighting project.

The Managing Director of Ossiomo Power Company, Dr. Uwa Igiehon, said the private companies are enjoying stable off-grid power supply that ensures their machines and businesses do not suffer disruptions.

According to him, “We have onboarded over 20 power companies in the last few months as lots of persons have now come to accept us as the most reliable alternative to stable electricity. We are providing businesses along Benin-Sapele Road and neighbouring areas with stable power. These businesses include manufacturing companies, hotels, industrial clusters, among others.

“As we expand our distribution capacity, we would welcome more businesses on our system. This shows that, indeed, if we are committed we can solve Nigeria’s problems, as we have shown that we have the capacity to provide stable power for use by both public and private companies who are contributing to the growth of the economy.
