Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State Governor has been announced by the Forbes Magazine as the winner of the 2022 Forbes Best of Africa Governor in Industrial Revolution.

The governor made the announcement on his official Twitter handle.

He said: “It is such an honour and incredibly humbling to be among the winners of the prestigious Forbes Awards for the year 2022, where I was named Forbes Best of Africa Governor in Industrial Revolution.

“It is yet another acknowledgement of our success in creating an enabling environment for investment, and providing democratic governance in line with our vision, not only in Ogun State, but also in Nigeria and in Africa as a whole.

“I would like to appreciate the Almighty God for His grace, the citizens of Ogun State for their continued trust and support, members of my team for their cooperation and hard work, members of my family for their patience and continued understanding.”

Ogun State’s internally generated revenue rose to over N100 billion in 2021, according to the data published by Nigeria’s data agency, the National Bureau of Statistics, making Ogun, the fourth largest IGR state in the country.

Ogun State’s 2021 IGR was the largest ever since the state was created over four decades ago.

Meanwhile, Dapo Abiodun will test his popularity once again among the Ogun State electorate when he faces his challenger, Ladi Adebutu, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state during the March 2023 governorship election.

Interestingly, both Dapo Abiodun and Ladi Adebutu are not only from the Ogun east senatorial district, they are equally from the Remo axis of the state, and both camps are upbeat of victory come March 2023.
