In a swift response to complement the private initiative by the concerned citizens of Ekae community in Oredo Local Government Area, the Edo State Government has deployed graders to continue work on the old Benin Sapele road. The strategic road, when fully reconstructed, will ease the unending gridlock occasioned by high vehicular movement on the main Benin Sapele road especially at the RCC terminal/Ogheghe junction.

Residents of the area are already heaving a huge sigh of relief with the ongoing work at the old road which is still at the preliminary stages. It is expected that asphalting of the road will be expedited by the government in order to reduce the suffering of commuters during the anticipated heavy downpours later this year.

It should also be recalled that some residents of Ekae community started the road maintenance process while briefing journalists from the Nigerian Observer, penultimate week. Impressed at the quick response of the Obaseki administration, Efosa Orhue who has been monitoring the project closely, expressed his excitement at the government’s quick response which he said was very commendable.

Intimating the Nigerian Observer, he said: “This is a testament to the viability of the MEGA agenda of the Obaseki administration and I commend the government for reacting proactively by assisting the community to complete the road rehabilitation exercise.”

He encouraged the contractor to ensure a speedy completion of the project noting that the road will serve as a major alternative to the main Sapele road which despite being a federal trunk road, has become a perennial nightmare for road users especially during the raining season.
