Kaduna State governor Mallam Nasir el-Rufai says some key persons in the Nigeria’s Presidential Villa are working to ensure the defeat of the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu in the February 25 presidential election.

He however failed to mention the names of those behind what he called ‘planned failure of the ruling party in the coming general elections.’

“I believe that there are elements in the Villa that want us to lose the elections because they didn’t get their way,” El-Rufai claimed, when he appeared on Channels Television Morning programme, ‘Sunrise Daily’ this Wednesday.

The governor said the unnamed elements in the Aso Villa are working against Tinubu’s success because their preferred candidate failed to clinch the party’s ticket at the primaries.

“They had their candidate; their candidate didn’t win the primaries and I think they are still trying to get us to lose the elections and they are hiding behind the President’s desire to do what he thinks is right,” the governor said.

Governor El-Rufai said the planned removal of fuel subsidy and scarcity of the product, and the recent redesigning of the higher denominations of the naira are some indicators that some forces in the seat of power are against Tinubu’s candidacy.
