The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and its partners, Tantita Security Services, on Saturday arrested six oil vandals and seized a barge laden with 700 barrels of illegal crude oil in Opete, Udu Local Govt Area of Delta State.

NNPCL said it is another milestone in the ongoing fight against crude oil theft in the country.

Captain Warredi Ensuoh, executive director, operations and technical unit of Tantita Security Services, who conducted newsmen round various locations of the incidence said the operation was conducted by a combined team of security agencies acting on intelligence.

In a statement posted on its verified Twitter handle, the oil company said one of the discoveries was a jetty belonging to one Mawe Services Limited in Opete, Udu Local Government of Delta State, which illegally used its facilities to transfer the illegal crude to another of its facility serving as a depot.

The six suspects arrested for the offence are currently being detained by the security agencies while the barge used has been safely destroyed, the statement said.
