…as Labour Party flags off campaign

The Labour Party chairmanship candidate for Oredo in the forthcoming Edo State local government elections, Onaghise Osaretin Daniel-Ero, has assured the people of Oredo that, if elected, his administration would put a stop to double taxation in the local council, introduce technological innovations to improve efficiency, and make primary health care a top priority.

He gave the assurance in Benin City, Edo State capital, on Saturday during the party’s campaign flag-off in Oredo for the local government elections scheduled for September 2.

Speaking at the event where a mammoth crowd gathered from across the 12 wards in Oredo to pledge solidarity to him, Daniel-Ero said explained that the crowds that came out for the campaign flag-off were organic voters who were not paid a dime to support the party, emphasizing that voting in the local government elections in September would not be based on money politics and vote buying.

Getting down to specifics, he said that his administration would provide functional primary health care (PHC) facilities in the 12 wards in Oredo Local Government Area with qualified medical personnel to man them.

“We will also make sure that the existing ones are functional,” he said, stressing the importance of primary health care as the most critical stage in healthcare service delivery and the first level of contact at the community level with a healthcare facility.

The Labour Party candidate said whereas Oredo LGA has witnessed some chairmen of the council who disappointed the people in the past without any meaningful contribution to their lives, his administration would do things differently.

“We are going to come out with new ideas of doing things, like the bureaucracy in getting local government certificate of origin and proper accountability which is the bane of various local government councils in Nigeria,” Daniel-Ero said.

He said his administration would also deploy technology and train local government workers on its usage to drive efficiency and improved service.
