The Chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia, has reiterated her commitment to the welfare of Egor people, affirming the possibility of achieving a clean Egor with the cooperation of community leaders and residents’ compliance.

She made the affirmation at a stakeholders’ engagement/meeting held on Tuesday, 25th October 2023 at the council’s auditorium.

Hon. Ogbemudia asserted that environmental sustainability and the security of lives and property of Egor people was her topmost priority. However, all hands must be on deck in achieving the best for Egor people.

Emphasizing the need for proper waste disposal, the Chairman noted that indiscriminate waste disposal is hazardous to the environment. When it rains, such waste flows to drainages thereby blocking the waterways and resulting in flooding. Such refuse could also be transported to streams and rivers which could lead to water pollution, she said, urging residents to desist from the act of indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

According to the Chairman, task force would be deployed to strategic locations within the LGA to enforce compliance with operation Clean-up Egor, and anyone caught in the act of indiscriminate waste disposal would be made to face the law to serve as a deterrence to other offenders.

Addressing the issue of insecurity, Hon. Ogbemudia urged the sector commandants of the vigilante group to be more accessible in their locality, as easy access would make their work easier and more effective. She said each sector commandant must henceforth be appointed from the community where he is made the commandant. This, she said, would aid in tackling the issue of insecurity within the LGA, as the local commandant is more familiar with his terrain as to locate the vulnerable areas in the community.

The Enigie present at the stakeholders meeting thanked the Chairman and pledged their support in ensuring that the issue of insecurity becomes a thing of the past in every community in Egor Local Government Area.

In attendance were other traditional leaders from various communities within the LGA, members of the vigilante group and their sector commandants, as well as environmental health workers in the council.
