Engineer Morison Eghobamien has expressed his intention to contest the 2024 Edo State governorship election on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).

Eghobamien, who stormed the state Secretariat of the Labour Party to formerly inform the party leaders of his intention, said if nominated and elected as governor of the state, he would make security, health, education and provision of infrastructure, particularly roads his administration’s major priority.

The aspirant pleaded with the Edo State executive of the party to support him in his ambition to occupy the number one seat of the state in 2024, saying, “I am here to formerly inform you, the executive of the party of my intention to contest the governorship ticket of the party.

“I am here to solicit your support for nomination as a candidate of our party, Labour, because I am convinced beyond reasonable doubt that I have what it takes to govern Edo State.

“LP must rescue this state to the glory of Almighty God. I am here to plead; I have what it takes to lead this state. I have the capacity. Support me for the nomination for the governorship. I have capacity to do what others have not done.

“I pledge my loyalty to the party and also assured that I will carry the party executives along in decision making if nominated and elected as governor of the state.”

Edo State Chairman of the party, Kelly Ogbaloi, while responding on behalf of the party executive told the aspirant that he has started well by coming to inform the party of his ambition after his quiet consultation.

“The best thing is what you have done today. You can now talk to our people in the various local governments and from your credentials, you have what it takes to lead,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party Governorship Aspirant, Morrison Eghobamien while reacting on the just-called-off nationwide strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), which started on Tuesday, said the action was inevitable following the ugly situation that informed the strike action, just as he tasked all parties to engage in dialogue.

According to Eghobamien, who spoke with newsmen soon after his visit to the LP secretariat in Benin City, said, “The ongoing nationwide strike has become inevitable following the breakdown of dialogue as well as other related issues and I still believe that dialogue by all parties for a peaceful resolution would be in the interest of Nigerians.”

He said government must rise above sentiments and negotiate with the NLC, noting that strike action nationwide is the last resort when dialogue fails, advising that the industrial action should not be prolonged.

“This strike should not go on endlessly, until the issues are resolved. I just think it is a wrong way of doing things. I think we can’t just go on strike. The government have got to dialogue with NLC.

“In developed countries, after dialogue has failed, before you embark on strike. That is the right way of doing things. I am in support of the strike action, even though I don’t like strike action.

“Dialogue needs to continue even though the strike is on, so that we can shorten the length of the strike,” he said.
