The need for children to set goals for themselves in life and be focused in pursuing such goals and abstain from unnecessary indulgence in negative vices has been brought to the fore.

A corps member serving at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba in Delta State, Dr. Nonye Anuebunwa stated this in Asaba during a Goal Setting Conference she organized for teenage students drawn from 8 secondary schools within the State Capital Territory as part of her Community Development Service (CDS).

Dr. Anuebunwa, who is the convener of the programme, said that the essence of the conference was to sensitise the teenagers on the importance of goal setting and to help them manage distractions that could make them not achieve their full potential in life.

She enjoined them to shun immorality and embrace right things in life.

She also said that the purpose of organising the conference for the children was to equip them with the needed tips that would enable them to impact positively on their lives, Delta State and Nigeria in general.

She told them that there was no goal without the vision and highlighted some of the secrets of achieving one’s goals to include the ability to learn something new and identify where they were at the moment and start from there.

While encouraging them to show contentment in aspiring for greatness, Dr. Anuebunwa explained that for any mentoring and counseling programme to achieve the desired expectations, it was important to start from the foundation.

The Principal of West End Mixed Secondary School, Asaba, Augusta Ogeah, who is a multiple award winning educationist in the state described the gesture as commendable, adding that she supported the convener as a result of the impact of the initiative on the children.

In their various pep talks, the Director of Schools in the State Ministry of Secondary Education, Justina Ishiaka, represented by a Chief Education Officer in the Ministry, Pastor Ifeanyi Chukwekelu and Fredmark Uyoyo, Dr. Vivian Chukwuebuka reminded the students that they needed to be committed in order to achieve their purpose in life.
