In a groundbreaking move, the Federal Ministry of Health has officially launched the Global Fund Health Grant Cycle -7 on Tuesday, signaling a new era of healthcare advancements and initiatives within the nation.

The ambitious program aims to address critical health challenges, improve healthcare infrastructure, and enhance the overall well-being of the Nigerian population.

The current Global Fund GC-7 grants for 2024-2026, totaling $933 million, would support interventions in 13 priority states in Nigeria for malaria, 4 comprehensive states for HIV/AIDS and all the 36 states plus FCT will benefit from the Tuberculosis grant.

The Federal Ministry of Health (FMH), in a statement released on the agency’s official twitter page, explained that the health grant will also support health system strengthening in all 36 states plus FCT, and 5 states with health insurance for vulnerable groups.

With an allocation of funds specifically tailored for addressing prevalent health issues, Cycle -7 aims to intensify efforts in combating infectious diseases, enhancing maternal and child health, and bolstering healthcare infrastructure across the nation. The grant is poised to serve as a catalyst for transformative projects that will uplift the overall health landscape in Nigeria.

The Global Fund is certain to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria with an approved US$9.2 billion for grants starting in 2024. 152 new grants are expected to support more than 70 countries including Nigeria to continue their life saving work to end the three epidemics and build sustainable and climate-resilient systems for health over the 2024-2026 period.

The total Global Fund investment in Nigeria is now over $4 billion since inception in 2003 making Nigeria the highest recipient country.
