Etsako Central Local Government Chairman, Hon Solomon Obomighie, has called on the three tiers of government and the traditional rulers to join hands with the security agencies to combat the insurgency in the land.
The chairman made the appeal while speaking during this year’s annual Armed Forces Remembrance celebration held at the Usagbe Primary Fchool field, Fugar, the administrative headquarters of the local government.
He said this year’s celebration is coming when the country is contending with security challenges of Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping, and Fulani herdsmen attack are still prevailing in the country.
While welcoming the people for the celebration, he stated that government alone cannot provide for all the needs of the ex-servicemen and the families of the fallen heroes, but however encouraged them to engage themselves in small-scale enterprises and businesses for self assistance.
The chairman further stated that as the local government, it will continue to contribute its quota within the available resources of the local government to help mitigate the problems of the people.
Hon Obomighie however appealed to the people, corporate bodies and captains of industries in the local government to donate generously towards the sale of the emblems with a view to alleviate the suffering the families left behind by the fallen heroes.
The chairman used the opportunity to inform the people that his administration which came into power on September 2023 is prepared to turn things around for the betterment of the people in the entire communities in the local government.
According to him, “within the short time in office, electricity have been extended to communities, grading of earth roads is ongoing, placing the local government on the website thereby the activities of the local government can be viewed all over the world and most interestingly, the reconstruction of the Central Modern Market has commenced, which after completion it will boost the economy of the people and revenue generation of the local government”.
Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of the Nigeria Legion Etsako Central chapter, Rtd. Lt Col Bello Oseni, said every January 15 is always set aside by the Federal Government to give opportunity to celebrate, appreciate and support the Nigerian Legion and the family of the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the unity of Nigeria and her citizens.
The chairman whose address was read by the secretary, Rtd. Captain Aloysius A. Lamai, said over 2 millions officials of the Nigerian Armed Forces are still in the service defending either by air, land or sea the territorial integrity of the nation thereby allowing people to raise their children, dream their dreams and live their lives to the fullest.
On this note, he said it was saddened to see that the fallen heroes and veterans who put their lives on the line for the services of the people are not adequately appreciated and neglected by the government at all levels.
The chairman therefore appealed to the government to make them relevant as they are ready to partner with the government most especially in the area of security management.
Highpoints of the ceremony was the match-pass by various organizations, launching of the emblems and laying of wreaths by the local government chairman, Hon Solomon Obomighie, Vice Chairman Hon Fidelis Agbaza, secretary to the local government, Chief John Oghiadomhe, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Fugar, among others.
