… as EDSPHCDA, partners flag off Maternal Newborn, Child Health Week campaign
The Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) in collaboration with UNICEF and other partners, flagged off the first round of Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW) campaign in Ugbekun Clinic, Ikpoba Okha, on Friday, in Benin City.
The flag-off ceremony was simultaneously held across all the Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Edo State and chaired by the respective Executive Chairman or representative.
While speaking during the state’s flag-off event held at Ikpoba Okha LGA, the Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen, highlighted the government’s commitment to bringing healthcare services directly to the community, by providing solar power, water, furniture, medical equipment, essential drugs and trained health workers to deliver quality care so that residents would not have to go far to access healthcare.
Dr. Izedonmwen called on all stakeholders to join efforts with the Agency and its partners to spread the information about this current MNCHW campaign and increase the full participation of caregivers who will take the eligible children aged 6 – 59 months to the clinics in communities to receive nutrition commodities, saying that routine immunization will also be provided alongside other services across the 18 LGAs in Edo State.
On his part, Dr. Eric Osayande, the Executive Chairman of Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, expressed his gratitude to the guests for honouring the flag-off occasion.
Dr. Osayande also spoke on the importance of the Maternal and Child Health Week campaign for the well-being of Edo children and urged mothers to bring their children to the facilities closest to them to receive nutrition commodities and monitor their growth.
