Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has directed the Commissioner for Health, Professor Augustine Umoh to set up a team to carry out a comprehensive review of the Ibom Specialist Hospital. This is to ensure the optimum usage of the premium medical facility in line with the objective upon which it was established and commissioned in 2015.

Located at Ekid Itam, Ikot Ekpene Road in Uyo, the hospital is a quaternary health facility established by the Akwa Ibom State government to offer super-specialized medical services to the people.

At a meeting with critical stakeholders at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Uyo, the Governor said the state has not optimized the use of the health facility, saying henceforth Ibom Specialist Hospital will be run as a Limited Liability Company.

“Recently, I gave a directive to the Commissioner for Health to set up a team to do a very comprehensive review of Ibom Specialist Hospital because I feel that we have not optimized the use of the health facility. So, we want to know everything that is wrong about that hospital.”

Speaking further, Governor Eno said modern primary health centres have been built and some are still being constructed under the “one project per local government policies,” as part of efforts by his administration to improve access to health care for the people.

“We are building General Hospitals. The General Hospital in Ukanafun I am sure is nearing completion right now. There are a few more General Hospitals we will be building. We have done so much in the health sector.

“We recently set up a Health Insurance Board to help our people have access to minimum medical bills by patronizing the Health Insurance scheme. We have provided medical outreaches as much as we can to help our people. We are working very hard to ensure that our hospitals are well equipped”, the governor assured.
