In a proactive effort to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply during the yuletide season, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has entered into a landmark partnership with Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

This agreement will enable PETROAN to directly lift petroleum products from the refinery for distribution across its retail outlets and depots nationwide.

In a statement issued by PETROAN’s National Public Relations Officer, Dr. Joseph Obele, the association disclosed that the deal was finalized on December 2, 2024, following extensive negotiations led by its National President, Dr. Billy Gillis-Harry.

“This partnership marks a significant milestone in our mission to ensure the steady supply of petroleum products to our members and the public,” Dr. Obele said. “It will enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and drive economic growth.”

Under the agreement, Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest refining facility, will allocate specific monthly product volumes for PETROAN. While details of the payment terms and pricing remain confidential, the arrangement aims to streamline fuel distribution, cut out middlemen, and stabilize the supply chain.

Dr. Obele noted that the ultimate beneficiaries of this collaboration would be Nigerian consumers, as it ensures fuel availability and affordability during the festive season. He also urged consumers to avoid panic buying and called on stakeholders in the downstream petroleum sector to support Dangote Refinery and NNPC Retail Limited in sustaining the supply chain.

“The general public stands to gain the most from this partnership. We remain committed to meeting the fuel needs of Nigerians, especially during the holiday season,” he emphasized.

The Dangote Refinery, located in Lagos, has already commenced the production of petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel, with plans to serve over 30,000 Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) members and 150,000 retail outlets nationwide.

PETROAN’s collaboration with Dangote Refinery is expected to mitigate recurrent fuel shortages during peak periods and reinforce Nigeria’s energy security.

“As the yuletide season approaches, this agreement provides much-needed assurance of a steady fuel supply,” Dr. Obele added. “It is a clear demonstration of our commitment to addressing the nation’s energy challenges through strategic partnerships.”

The initiative highlights the importance of direct industry collaborations in tackling fuel distribution issues and enhancing consumer satisfaction.
