The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has announced a partnership with the Forum of Insurance Practitioners in Edo State to enhance service delivery, particularly in motor vehicle registration and renewal.

The collaboration was disclosed by the Executive Director of Other Revenue, Hon. Sir Michael Ohio-Ezomo, who represented the Executive Chairman during a courtesy visit by the forum’s leadership to the EIRS Corporate Head Office in Benin City.

A press release from the office of the Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Courage Eboigbe, highlighted Hon. Ohio-Ezomo’s emphasis on the vital role of insurance companies in society.

He noted that through its motor vehicle registration and renewal processes, EIRS has been advocating for compliance with the mandatory third-party insurance policy.

Ohio-Ezomo further stated that EIRS is working towards a seamless vehicle registration and renewal process in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

This initiative aims to improve the database of motorists, ensure a steady supply of number plates, and increase the number of Driver’s Licence Capturing Centres in Edo State from six to twelve.

Commending the insurance practitioners for their efforts in public awareness over the past 23 years, Ohio-Ezomo assured them of EIRS’s commitment to supporting insurance-related issues.

In response, the leader of the visiting delegation, Sir (Chief) Dr. Bibowei James Braie, congratulated the EIRS Board on its constitution and achievements, praising its business-oriented approach to revenue management.

He also highlighted the recent increase in third-party insurance policy coverage, which now includes the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) “Brown Card,” offering protection to Nigerian policyholders across ECOWAS member nations.

While acknowledging the regulatory challenges facing the insurance industry, Chief Braie appealed for stronger collaboration between the EIRS and insurance practitioners to enhance insurance education and policy formulation for the benefit of Edo State residents.

The visit was prompted by the EIRS’s ongoing review of its Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) processes, aimed at maintaining order and efficiency in the sector.
