The Senate has confirmed Mr. Sylvester Nwakuche as the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).
His confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of the report by the Senate Committee on Interior during plenary on Tuesday. The report was presented by the committee’s chairman, Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC-Edo).
While presenting the report, Oshiomhole stated that the committee had thoroughly screened Nwakuche’s credentials, experience, and leadership capacity. He described the nominee as a person of impeccable character with extensive exposure and intellectual capacity.
According to him, Nwakuche has held several command positions within the NCS and has undergone various professional training programs, equipping him with the necessary expertise for the role.
Oshiomhole further noted that there were no petitions against the nominee and commended his impressive performance during the screening exercise. He, therefore, urged the Senate to approve the appointment, which was subsequently confirmed.
Nwakuche’s confirmation comes at a time when the Nigerian Correctional Service faces increasing challenges, including prison congestion and security concerns. His leadership is expected to bring reforms and improvements to the sector.

He commended the committee for the screening exercise conducted on the nominee, saying that his confirmation was coming at difficult era of jail breaks, expressing hope that the issues would come to an end.
