Troops of Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State have rejected a ₦13.742 million bribe offered by two suspected terrorists during an operation along the Jos–Sanga Road.
The incident occurred on July 9, 2025, while the troops were responding to a distress call. They intercepted a suspicious vehicle with bullet holes and found weapons and ammunition inside.
According to the Defence Headquarters, the suspects in the vehicle attempted to buy their freedom with the cash, but the soldiers refused the offer.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, said the troops arrested the suspects, seized the vehicle, the weapons, and the cash, and handed them over for investigation.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Kangye praised the professionalism of the soldiers and said their conduct reflected the military’s commitment to integrity and discipline.
He also gave a rundown of military operations conducted between July 9 and 16 across Plateau and Kaduna States.
During that period, troops carried out several offensive operations and responded to distress calls in areas including Bassa, Barkin Ladi, South Wase, Riyom, Jos East, Kaura, and Sanga.
Kangye said several terrorists were killed, 12 suspects were arrested, and three kidnapped victims were rescued. Weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and illicit drugs were recovered.
Routine patrols also led to the arrest of seven suspected criminals in Plateau, Nasarawa, and Kaduna States.
In the Niger Delta, troops of Operation Delta Safe arrested 42 suspected oil thieves. They recovered 201,345 litres of stolen crude oil, 29,730 litres of illegally refined diesel, and 1,759 litres of kerosene.
Troops also discovered and destroyed 19 illegal refining sites, and seized boats, cooking ovens, storage tanks, and drilling machines.
In separate operations, a notorious cult leader, Prince Johnson Ishirim, also known as Commander Junior, was arrested in Rivers State, along with 13 others in Delta State.
In Bayelsa, troops raided a criminal hideout in Southern Ijaw on July 10 and arrested 28 suspects involved in oil theft and drug peddling.
Kangye said the operations reflect the military’s resolve to eliminate terrorism and organised crime while upholding ethical standards across all theatres.
