BENIN CITY – The Nigerian Observer Newspapers has pledged robust support for Lions International, promising strategic media coverage of the humanitarian organisation’s activities across the District.
The commitment followed a strategic media advocacy visit by Lions International’s First Vice District Governor and District Governor-Designate, Lion Doris Ken-Otokiti, who led a delegation of Lions leaders to the Bendel Newspapers Corporation headquarters on Airport Road, Benin City.
The team was received by Mr. Sylvester Oboh, Acting General Manager of The Nigerian Observer, alongside other senior management staff.
Mr. Oboh commended Lions International for its efforts in alleviating economic hardships and highlighted the shared social objectives between the media and the humanitarian organisation, including fair, objective, and balanced reporting.
He pledged the newspaper’s support in disseminating accurate and effective information about Lions activities to the public.
Addressing the gathering, Lion Otokiti explained that the visit aimed to explore mutually beneficial collaboration opportunities ahead of her administration’s official assumption of office in July.
“As a humanitarian organisation, we value the critical role your media house plays in information dissemination and consider you a vital partner.
“We request media coverage of our activities as we continue our service to humanity,” she said.
She also sought “preferential media rates” to amplify Lions’ humanitarian initiatives through dedicated features, columns, and public awareness campaigns, emphasising the goal of inspiring volunteerism and strengthening community engagement.
Highlighting Lions International’s century-long legacy, Lion Otokiti noted the organisation’s focus on seven key service areas, including eye care, diabetes awareness, environmental conservation, youth development, and childhood cancer.
She also announced her installation as District Governor scheduled for August 29 and extended an invitation to The Nigerian Observer management, assuring continued joint advocacy for community development, increased visibility for the newspaper at Lions events, and capacity-sharing opportunities for members.
The visit concluded with an exchange of publications, as Lions International presented its magazine to Mr. Oboh, who in turn gave a copy of The Nigerian Observer’s newspaper to the delegation.
