BENIN CITY – The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has congratulated its Chairman, Festus Alenkhe, following his appointment as Acting Managing Director of Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), Benin, describing the elevation as a recognition of competence, hard work, and years of dedicated service.
The congratulatory message was delivered during a visit by members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the union led by the NUJ Vice Chairman, Comrade Ede Agho to the headquarters of EBS where the council said that the appointment reflected the confidence roposed in him by the Edo State Government.
Speaking on behalf of the SWC, during the visit, Secretary of the council, Andy Egbon expressed delight that one of their own had been entrusted with what they described as an exalted responsibility, noting that the appointment was a testament to his track record of leadership and commitment to public service.
“We are happy that one of our own has been considered for this exalted position,” he stated.
“It shows the confidence the state government has in you. As they say, ‘the reward for hard work is more work.”
The union recalled Alenkhe’s leadership trajectory, citing his previous role as Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the Nigeria Red Cross, his stewardship of the NUJ in Edo State, and his latest appointment as Acting Managing Director of EBS.
“You did it as NYCN Chairman, Red Cross, you did it in NUJ, and we know you will do even greater things here because this is a higher responsibility,” the Secretary stated, expressing confidence in Alenkhe’s ability to deliver in his new assignment.
Offering prayers for a successful tenure, the council asked for divine wisdom, knowledge, and guidance for the Acting Managing Director, expressing hope that the appointment would open doors to even greater opportunities in the future.
“We pray God Almighty gives you wisdom and knowledge. This is a stepping stone to greater heights. We believe humanity will continue to benefit from your wealth of knowledge,” he added.
He thanked the Acting Managing Director for receiving them warmly and pledged their continued support throughout his tenure.
Responding, Alenkhe expressed appreciation to the union for the visit and goodwill, assuring members of sustained collaboration and continued support for the ideals and welfare of journalism in Edo State.
