There are strong indications that 26-years-old Emmanuel Chijioke Ugokwe, the only surviving son of Mr. Onyebuchi Sylvester Ugokwe, one of the community leaders in Orsu community in Imo State who was gruesomely murdered by unknown gunmen on 17th August 2020, has reportedly fled from the community in the wake of the wanton killings and destruction of property in the Southern -Eastern part of Nigeria.
It was earlier reported that the late 57-years-old Onyebuchi Sylvester Ugokwe met his untimely death in the hands of unknown gunmen who trailed him on his way home shortly after having a meeting with elders in the community over a lingering communal crisis.
His outspoken and selfless leadership qualities, according to reports in the community, exposed the deceased community leader to greater security threats as his views were often perceived as being against abuse of power, abuse of office, misrule and bad governance in the community invariably leading to break down of law and order, anarchy , civil unrest through the use of armed criminals.
Meanwhile,there are clear indications in the community in Orsu local government area in Imo State that the unknown gunmen made good their threats when they struck on August 17th 2020 and allegedly killed Mr.Onyebuchi .
According to earlier reports in the community, it was confirmed that the deceased had on several occasions received death threats from faceless individuals vowing to eliminate every members of his family over yet-to-be confirmed reasons.
Further information made available to our correspondent by a close family source who pleaded annonymity revealed that Emmanuel Chijioke Ugokwe immediately after his late father was allegedly murdered by unknown gunmen ran away from the community.
According to the source who resides in Benin City, Edo State , the fleeing Emmanuel Chijioke Ugokwe was reported to have relocated to Benin City to seek refuge with one of his childhood friend in Edo State as part of his frantic efforts to avoid the organized terror attacks on his life by the same killers of his late father.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Observer was told that the wanton killings and destruction of property in the community in Orsu and other parts of the Southern-eastern Nigeria has desperately compelled many families with similar ordeals akin to the family of Mr.Onyebuchi Sylvester Ugokwe to either relocate permanently to places where security of lives was guaranteed or flee by absconding from the crisis-ridden region as in the case of Emmanuel Chijioke Ugokwe whose whereabouts in the face of obvious threats to his life remain unknown.
