BENIN CITY — The haunting specter of cultism and gang violence continues to plague Nigerian youths, casting a dark shadow over communities and leaving a trail of bloodshed and devastation. In recent days, the ancient city of Benin has been engulfed by a surge in brutal clashes between rival cult groups, resulting in the tragic loss of at least seven lives.
The origin of this latest wave of violence can be traced back to a seemingly innocuous incident at a local pub, where a member of an infamous cult faction was viciously stabbed by a rival gang member during a heated dispute over a football match. What began as a dispute quickly escalated into a full-blown clash, setting off a chain reaction of violence that has rocked the city.
The heart of the city’s bustling activity, the popular 3rd Junction, turned into a scene of horror as one person fell victim to a barrage of gunfire. Along the Ekewan road axis, two young men met their untimely demise in a hail of bullets, further highlighting the alarming escalation of this cycle of violence.
Among the heartbreaking tales emerging from this ongoing tragedy is that of Stanley Osarinmwina, a young man who has suffered unimaginable loss. Stanley lost two family members in a ruthless attack carried out by a cult group intent on targeting his cousin, known only as Matthew. Anonymous sources have revealed that Matthew was a notorious member of a rival cult and had become the focal point of their violent retribution. Miraculously, Stanley Osarinmwina narrowly escaped death in the same attack that claimed the lives of his relatives.
Insiders claim that the attack on Stanley’s family was driven by a thirst for revenge, stemming from rumors that Matthew led an earlier assault that resulted in the death of a rival cult member’s father. The cycle of vengeance and bloodshed appears unrelenting, with innocent lives being caught in the crossfire.
Of grave concern is the current whereabouts of Stanley Osarinmwina, who is believed to be in hiding, acutely aware that a bounty has been placed on the heads of Matthew’s family members.
