Pandemonium erupted in Obia/Akpor community in the middle of the night as helpless sympathizers watched in shock the house and property of Somiari Bright Brown, a deputy Superintendent of the local vigilante go up in flames.
Obia/Akpor local government in Rivers State in recent times has been under the siege of criminals who are involved in kidnapping, farmer herders clashes, banditry and armrobbery and are always in constant confrontation with the local vigilante led by the deputy Superintendent and his team commissioned to enthrone peace, safety and security of life and property by ridding off the entire community of all forms of criminalities..
To archieve the purpose of a safer society in Obio/Akpor community, the local vigilante worked in line with the principle of inclusivity by ensuring there was zero tolerance for crimes in the community as every peace loving indigenes of the community were on daily basis ready to provide updated information on every individuals in order to nip crime in the bud.
However on June 25th 2022, following the successes recorded by the local vigilante in the community in pushing criminals out, concerted efforts were made by certain unknown gunmen to return to the old order and the deputy superintendent of the local vigilante network and his family were at the receiving end of their evil plots leading to death threats .
A family source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the fire started in the middle of the night when the deputy superintendent and his family were already asleep as some unknown gunmen who arrived the community in a vehicle fired sporadic gunshots to announce their arrival.
According to the source, the family in recent times following the enviable feat recorded in fighting crimes in the community had been terrorized by faceless individuals who have been threatening to wipe out the entire family of the second-in-command of the local vigilante.
He futher said the unknown gunmen after repeatedly firing sporadic gunshots into the community thereafter set the building the deputy Superintendent lived with his family on fire before speeding off in their vehicle .
Sympathizers were reportedly seen making frantic efforts to rescue the family from the raging inferno as the deputy Superintendent and family were rescued unhurt from the burning building.
Meanwhile, a crowd of sympathizers watched helplessly as the building continued to burn in the middle of night as Somiari Bright Brown and his family were immediately taken away from the scene of mid night inferno which led to the burning down of the building as no property belonging to the victims of the inferno could be savaged.
