The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has concluded preparations to begin the use of internally developed, weekly scripted lesson plans across public schools in the State.
The initiative follows the Board’s disengagement from its former consulting partner and marks a strategic shift toward greater self-reliance and sustainability in education delivery.
The Acting Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Hon. Ebanehita Sonia Omonzane, disclosed that over 50 carefully selected educators from the State’s three senatorial districts—Edo South, Central, and North—gathered for a two-day workshop to finalise the lesson plans.
The materials, spanning from Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE) through Junior Secondary School (JSS), are aligned with the National Curriculum for Basic Education.
Each content developer was equipped with digital tablets, schemes of work, textbooks, and supplementary teaching resources to support their efforts.
Hon. Omonzane commended the educators for their dedication and expertise, highlighting that the digital transition signifies the government’s commitment to sustainability and quality in education.
“While deployment has not yet begun, it is scheduled for immediate rollout once schools resume from the mid-term break. Our Planning, Research, and Statistics (PRS) Team is currently completing formatting to ensure consistency and digital accessibility of the lesson scripts,” she said.
She added that SUBEB would monitor implementation closely, gathering feedback from teachers and students to refine teaching practices.
“These lesson scripts will be reviewed periodically to adapt to classroom realities and ensure effectiveness.”
Supporting her remarks, the Desk Officer for Curriculum Development, Mr. Dele Salami, stated that the tools and resources provided to officers were designed to enhance the accuracy, speed, and quality of content delivery.
“This approach not only improves our internal capacity but also reduces long-term dependence on external consultants,” he concluded.
With this strategic shift, Edo SUBEB is poised to deepen the quality of basic education across the state through technology-driven, home-grown solutions.
