BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced that the travel time between Benin City and Iruekpen in Esan West Local Government Area of the State has been drastically reduced to just 45 minutes following his administration’s intervention on the once-dilapidated federal road.
The Governor, who personally toured the upgraded road expressed joy and pride over the visible transformation of the route, which for years was notorious for its terrible condition, causing delays, hardship, and accidents.
“Before now, it was a nightmare. You could spend days trying to get to Iruekpen, especially during the rainy season. But today, that same journey takes only 45 minutes. The road is smooth and motorable,” Governor Okpebholo declared.
He credited the progress to Edo State’s alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which he said has attracted increased federal collaboration and infrastructural support to the state.
“The intervention is not an accident. It is the result of strategic engagement and the trust Edo State has built with the federal government. President Tinubu’s commitment to Edo is evident in the progress we are making,” he added.
Governor Okpebholo explained that the road’s rehabilitation is part of his larger vision of practical governance, one that is not just policy-based but visibly transformational.
“My administration believes in visible, measurable results. Roads like this are not just concrete; they are lifelines for commerce, education, healthcare, and social integration,” he said.
Expressing appreciation to Edo people for their trust and support, the Governor reiterated that their mandate fuels his passion for service.
He assured that more developmental projects will follow across the state’s three senatorial districts.
“The people of Edo State are my inspiration. I knew exactly why I sought this office, to serve them, to develop the state, and to prioritise their wellbeing. That remains my mission,” Governor Okpebholo said.
Engineer Bajwa Mohd, a representative of the construction company that handled the project, praised the state government for its dedication, noting that the road has significantly improved the travel experience for thousands of commuters, especially those moving between Benin City and Ekpoma.
“The road is no longer a burden. Travellers are happier and spend less time on the road, which also means increased safety and productivity,” he observed.
