BENIN CITY — Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, has come down hard on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as a “walking corpse” that has lost all political relevance in the state.
Reacting to recent remarks by the PDP candidate for the Ovia Federal Constituency by-election, Jonny Ikponmwosa Aikpitanyi, who dismissed Governor Monday Okpebholo’s promise to deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in 2027, Ohonbamu said the PDP lacks the structure, vision, and public trust to win any election in the state.
“The PDP in Edo is a walking corpse, dead, but refusing to lie down. It is an empty shell kept alive by delusion and propaganda,” he said in a statement issued in Benin City.
Ohonbamu accused the opposition party of spreading misinformation in a desperate bid to stay relevant, insisting that Governor Okpebholo remains firmly on course to mobilize mass support for the APC.
“Governor Okpebholo’s leadership is resonating with the people. No amount of childish mockery from the PDP will change the reality that Edo has moved on. The PDP is clinging to ruins and pretending it’s a mansion,” he said.
He noted that defections from PDP to APC across the state were proof that the party had lost its grip.
“There is a political exodus happening. People are leaving PDP because they know it has no future. Who wants to waste time in a party that cannot win, cannot lead, and cannot even organize itself?”
Ohonbamu also warned PDP candidates in the forthcoming Ovia Federal Constituency and Esan Central Senatorial District by-elections to “stop dreaming,” insisting that their chances at the polls are nonexistent.
“The PDP is only alive on paper. On the ground, it is finished. The APC under Governor Okpebholo is the people’s choice—strong, united, and ready to deliver dividends of democracy,” he said.
He urged Edo voters to reject the PDP completely and support the APC in the August 16 by-elections, stressing that the future of the state lies in moving forward, not backward.
