Residents of No. 11 Ehigie Street, Off Benin Technical College Road, Benin City, Edo State are yet to come to terms with the bizarre attack on the apartment of one Maxwell Uwumarogie 20th of April 2022 by some hooded assailants beating him and also vandalized the house.

Also not spared in the violence that disrupted social and economic activities in the area was Habibat Isoken Uwumarogie, the pregnant wife of Maxwell Uwumarogie who was reportedly kicked in her stomach despite her condition.

Credible sources hinted that Habibat Isoken was the main target of the attack for allegedly dishonouring her Muslim parents by marrying none believer in the Islamic faith.

The hooded attackers it was alleged were sponsored by Habibat Isoken’s father, Alhaji Abdul Edebor, a puritanist Islamic cleric from Agbede, near Auchi, Edo State to put an end to the shame Habibat Isoken brought upon the family.
The action it was learnt, was to abduct the recalcitrant Habitat Isoken and force her to renounce her new Christian faith following her unapproved marriage to an unbeliever Maxwell Uwumarogie.

Habibat was said to have defiantly rejected entreaties from her parents against marrying none Muslim and went ahead to marry the love of her life without parental consent, a development that has forced the parents to plot the unthinkable towards their daughter.

This attack sources said was not the first as Habibat had before now been put in solitary confinement when she was found to be pregnant for an infidel, a thought her father could not contain in his heart leading to several plots to end the “unholy” Union.
She was said to have been dehumanized and beaten severally leading to the loss of her pregnancy before she managed to escape through the benevolence of one of her siblings who took pity on her and aided her escape.

Incidences of honour dehumanizations of persons in cross religious marriages are rife in the Muslims populated areas of Edo North. But the case at hand appears a little weird and extreme.

Edo Police spokesperson Chidi Nwabuzor DSP, said the matter was yet to be brought to the attention of the Police headquarters hence he wouldn’t be able to comment on the incident.
