…Commissions street lights, boreholes
BENIN CITY – The Acting Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, Mrs. Evbu Amen Oboh, has called on residents to take ownership of government infrastructure in their domains by ensuring proper maintenance and protection against vandalism.
Mrs. Oboh made the appeal at the weekend while commissioning newly installed street lights and industrial boreholes across parts of the local government area.
She decried the attitude of some residents who fail to regard public infrastructure as collective property, noting that vandals often exploit this negligence to destroy or cart away facilities meant to serve the people.
According to her, such acts compel the government to commit scarce resources to replacement rather than new development.
“We entrust the street lights in these communities to the care of residents. They must be maintained and protected, not vandalised. With light comes development, and as we illuminate these areas, darkness will flee,” she said.
The street light projects cover Aguobasimwin Street in the GRA, the Third Cemetery area in New Benin and its environs, Urhokpota at Ring Road, as well as the Oredo council secretariat.
An industrial borehole was also commissioned at the Urhokpota premises.
Mrs. Oboh assured that her administration remains committed to even development across Oredo, stressing that acts of sabotage would not deter the council from delivering on its mandate.
