PORT-HARCOURT — Security operatives have launched a manhunt for three members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to information made available to newsmen, the Police Public Relationship Officer(PPRO), Rivers State Command, SP George Princewill, said that the names of the wanted IPOB members are Odudu Ada, Christopher Eichie and Rufus Eze.
The Command in the statement accused these three persons of being the brains behind the recently staged protest on September 10, 2015 by the group in different parts of Port Harcourt and its environs.
The protest which was organised to garner support and membership for the pro Biafra group, who are fighting for the actualization of the Biafra Republic in the Eastern Region of Nigeria and the marginalized of the entire Eastern Region by the federal government.
It was gathered that on September 8, 2015, security operatives who got information about the planned protest, raided the spot where some of the executive members of the group gathered, to map out modalities for planned protest. Some arrests were made, while Odudu, Christopher and Rufus escaped.
In spite of the raid and clamped down on some of the IPOB members, the protest want on as planned, the protest led to the disruption of human and vehicular movement in the city as business owners lock their premises as they were told to stay at home during the protest.
The police that were sent to quell the protest, engaged the protesters in a heated argument as they told them to disperse and go home. When the protesters stood their grounds, the police started shooting teargas and live bullets into the crowd and this infuriated the protesters, as they vandalized so vehicles and buildings.
About two persons lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries.
But according to the PPRO in the statement, Odudu Ada is the coordinator of Rumouola Wing of IPOB, while Christopher Eichie is the assistant coordinator and Rufus Eze is the Public Relation Officer.
Stating that these IPOB members have been operating and holding cadestine meetings in the state for over a year and are recruiting new members on a daily basis.
Their whereabouts of Odudu Ada, Christopher Eichie and Rufus Eze are unknown as they have flee to evade arrest and face prosecution
