ABUJA — The House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes has pledged legislative backing for anti-graft agencies to strengthen the fight against financial crimes and boost investor confidence in Nigeria.
Committee Chairman Rep. Ginger Onwusibe (LP-Abia) made the pledge during the 2026 budget defence session with EFCC and NFIU management on Monday.
Onwusibe said the committee would enhance the agencies’ investigative and prosecutorial capacities, strengthen international cooperation, improve asset recovery, and build expertise against emerging threats such as cybercrime and virtual assets.
“Let us ensure they have the necessary resources to continue their vital work, while upholding professionalism and accountability,” he said, stressing alignment with legislative priorities and optimal resource use.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede commended the committee, attributing recent convictions to legislative support while calling for better funding and modern technology.
NFIU Director Hafsat Bakare noted the committee’s role in Nigeria’s exit from the FATF grey list and EU money laundering watchlists, highlighting milestones achieved through collaboration with local and international stakeholders.
